Designation: Assistant Coach
February 8, 2021
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is currently searching for a full-time assistant coach to work with the men’s and women’s varsity rowing programs. The assistant rowing coach supports the head coach and is responsible for a variety of coaching, teaching and recruiting issues, along with practice and competition-related functions as assigned by the head coach.
Embry-Riddle is the premier university focused on aviation. Located in Daytona Beach, Florida, Embry-Riddle’s campus is home to more than 6,000 undergraduate students. The university has experienced record enrollment four of the past five years and continues to attract high-achieving students and athletes who pursue careers in aviation, engineering, homeland security, and more.
The athletic department at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus transitioned from NAIA to NCAA Division II at the beginning of the 2017 – 18 academic year. That transition resulted in the addition of men’s and women’s rowing to the athletic department for a total of 20 varsity sports with nearly 500 student-athletes. Embry-Riddle competes as part of the Sunshine State Conference, which boasts 111 national championships, and 10 straight years of leading the NCAA Academic Success Rate.
The rowing program began as a club in 1990 and benefitted from the transition to NCAA DII to evolve the team to varsity status. The men and women combined to win the overall state championship in their first year as a varsity team. The men’s team continues to rise through the ranks of Dad Vail programs within the region while the women steadily push towards the podium within a very tough conference. The assistant rowing coach will work very closely with the head coach to achieve the shared and specific goals of each team. This is a full-time, exempt position with no additional teaching or administrative duties required. Salary includes a very attractive benefits package that covers dental, medical, vision, retirement, and tuition benefits. Evaluation of applicants will begin immediately with an anticipated start date of March 1, 2021. Previous experience in the sport of rowing is required with a minimum of one-year coaching experience.
